A Young Ballerina is an original oil painting of a ballet dancer posed in a classical dance position.
I was inspired by the ballet paintings of Edgar Degas, particularly his ability to capture dancers in quieter moments rather than only during performances.
I used a mixture of darker and lighter areas in the background, with blues and purples creating contrast around the figure and helping the ballerina stand out.
The painting combines my interest in figurative painting with the elegance and discipline of ballet.
