Ballerina Dance Practice is an original oil painting of a ballet dancer practising alone in a softly lit interior.
I painted the ballerina silhouetted against a warm window, using the contrast between the glowing light and darker room to make her figure stand out.
I wanted the painting to feel like a quiet moment away from the stage — the concentration and discipline behind the performance rather than the performance itself.
The dancer’s pose, the warm light and the deeper surrounding shadows give the scene a calm, intimate atmosphere.
