The Gaumont Cinema, Aberdeen is an original oil painting inspired by one of the city’s remembered historic cinemas.
I wanted to preserve a recognisable part of Aberdeen’s cultural history in paint and give the scene the atmosphere of a memory rather than simply reproduce an old photograph.
Local Aberdeen subjects are particularly meaningful to me because I grew up in the city, and paintings like this allow me to revisit buildings and places that have changed or disappeared.
