Venice Fireworks is an original night-time Venice oil painting inspired by the work of Canaletto.
Canaletto painted the original scene during the day, but I wanted to imagine how Venice might look at night, illuminated by fireworks and glowing lanterns.
Rather than simply reproduce the original painting, I changed the atmosphere completely, using the dark night sky and bursts of colour above the city to create a more theatrical scene.
I particularly enjoy reimagining historic paintings in this way, keeping something recognisable from the original while creating a different mood and story.
