Dunnottar Castle is an original Scottish castle oil painting featuring the historic clifftop fortress on the Aberdeenshire coast.
I wanted to capture the dramatic setting of the castle, perched high above the sea and surrounded by the rugged landscape of the north-east of Scotland.
The cliffs, open sky and distant water give the painting a strong sense of place, while the castle remains the focal point of the scene.
Dunnottar is one of Scotland’s most distinctive historic landmarks, and I particularly enjoy painting places like this where landscape and history come together.
