Brown Cow is an original Aberdeenshire calf oil painting inspired by an animal living close to my home on the outskirts of Aberdeen.
I have always enjoyed painting cows because each one seems to have its own expression and personality. For this painting I wanted the calf itself to remain the clear focus rather than surround it with a complicated landscape.
Knowing and seeing the animal locally also makes this a particularly personal Scottish countryside subject for me.
