In Search of Edward Hopper is a large original night city oil painting inspired by the quiet, cinematic atmosphere associated with American artist Edward Hopper.
I wanted to create my own urban night scene rather than reproduce one of Hopper’s paintings, using illuminated windows, pools of artificial light and deep surrounding shadows to suggest that something is happening just beyond what we can see.
I particularly like the contrast between a city being physically busy and a painting still feeling quiet or solitary. That sense of mystery and isolation was one of the qualities I wanted to explore here.
