Sakura is a large original oil painting inspired by Japan’s famous cherry blossom season, featuring a geisha standing on a bridge beneath flowering trees.
I wanted the blossom to dominate the scene, surrounding the figure with colour and giving the painting a dreamlike spring atmosphere.
The geisha provides a quiet focal point among the trees as she watches the falling cherry blossoms from the bridge. I particularly enjoyed using the scale of the canvas to create a scene that feels immersive rather than simply decorative.
