I wanted the figures to feel small against the open sea and dramatic evening sky, creating a peaceful sense of two people sharing the end of the day together.
I used warm reds, oranges and golden tones in the sunset, contrasting them with the cooler colours of the water and beach. The painting is really about atmosphere and companionship rather than a particular place.
