The Solitary Deer is an original Scottish winter wildlife oil painting featuring a lone stag standing quietly in a snow-covered forest.
I wanted the deer to feel completely at home within the landscape rather than simply placed in front of it. The tall frosted trees, drifting snow and winding path create a quiet winter atmosphere around the animal.
I particularly liked the idea of the stag appearing alone in the forest, alert but peaceful, with the soft winter light giving the scene a slightly mysterious feeling.
