Will-o’-the-Wisp is an original Scottish folklore oil painting featuring a mysterious dancing figure inspired by the traditional will-o’-the-wisp.
I wanted to turn the old folklore tale into an imaginative scene rather than illustrate it too literally. The girl represents the mysterious light associated with the legend, surrounded by an atmospheric landscape that gives the painting a slightly magical and unsettling quality.
Scottish folklore gives me a lot of interesting ideas for paintings because it combines landscape, storytelling and mystery.
