Jane Austen’s Literary Retreat is an original oil painting inspired by the celebrated English author, depicting her writing quietly beside the water in a peaceful country setting.
I imagined Jane Austen finding a quiet place beneath the trees, notebook and pen in hand, taking inspiration from the landscape around her.
The soft sunlight, water and surrounding greenery give the scene a calm, reflective atmosphere. I wanted it to feel less like a formal portrait and more like a private moment in which an idea for a story might be beginning.
The painting combines my interest in literature, storytelling and nostalgic landscape scenes.
