The Beauty of London in Winter is an original London oil painting capturing the city at winter twilight, with Big Ben and familiar landmarks beneath a cool blue sky.
I wanted to capture that particular atmosphere London has as daylight fades in winter and the lights of the city begin to glow.
I used cooler blues throughout the sky and buildings, contrasting them with warmer orange and golden lights in the streets and windows. A lone figure looking across the city adds a quiet, reflective feeling to the scene.
The painting combines two subjects I particularly enjoy — nostalgic city scenes and winter light.
