Vermeer’s New Model is an original oil painting inspired by the Girl with a pearl earring and the quiet domestic interiors of Johannes Vermeer and Pieter de Hooch.
Rather than recreating an existing painting, I imagined my own Dutch interior scene, using figures, architecture and carefully balanced light to create a sense of everyday life.
I particularly enjoy the way Dutch Golden Age painters turned ordinary domestic moments into atmospheric paintings, and I wanted to explore some of that feeling in this work while creating my own composition.
